Volunteering with the North Island-Powell River Greens
North Island-Powell River (NIPR) Greens have opportunities for volunteers to do some very important work. Now. Between elections is a crucial time to get election–ready!
As an Electoral District Association of the Green Party of Canada (the Party), the NIPR Greens endeavor “…to transform our communities to be sustainable, just and equitable, while tending the wellbeing of our planet…” In order to achieve this vision we work toward electing a Green Member of Parliament to represent us and to promote the Green Values which are fundamental to Greens everywhere.
We have many different Volunteer opportunities. A wide range of skills and abilities are needed. Join our friendly, hard-working NIPR Greens. You’ll be very glad you did.
Consider Volunteering as a Director
What does it mean to be a NIPR director?
North Island – Powell River is an Electoral District Association (EDA) of the Party. EDAs are Elections Canada sanctioned administrative organizations that facilitate party and community building activities at the riding level. EDAs provide a vehicle to build volunteer teams to carry out events and activities to grow the grassroots and connect with the party.
Each EDA is managed by a board of directors who collectively assume responsibility to:
- Support and promote the principles, objectives, policies and campaigns of the Party and maintain an effective EDA for that purpose.
- Meet the Party’s requirements as to EDA governance, financial management and reporting.
- Provide support to the Party’s candidate, campaign and organizing activities in the Electoral District.
- Maintain, and comply with, the EDA constitution.
- Hold an annual general meeting (AGM). The EDA must provide for election of officers at the AGM.
- Set direction and make plans for the EDA activities.
- Establish an EDA budget and manage EDA funds. Raise money to support the fundamental purposes of the Party.
- Attend regular meetings of the EDA executive and support the activities of the executive through participation in committees.
At a minimum each EDA must name two directors: the Chief Executive Officer and the Financial Agent. These positions are identified to the Party and to Elections Canada. Other director positions are identified at the discretion of the board.
All board members must be members in good standing of the Party.
